Workwear is worn intensively and replaced regularly. But where do all those old garments end up? And how do you ensure that new workwear is indeed sustainable, circular, and fully customized?
In this article, you will read how Atelier Jungles sustainably produces workwear in the Netherlands and how we recycle or upcycle old workwear into new, relevant products.
Why sustainable workwear is becoming increasingly important
More and more organizations want to not only present themselves professionally but also reduce their CO₂ footprint and contribute to a circular economy. Sustainable workwear plays an important role in this:
- Less textile waste through reuse, recycling, and upcycling
- Better quality and longer lifespan of garments
- Circular solutions for old workwear
- Local production in the Netherlands with short lines
- Transparent and ethical working method throughout the chain
Sustainable corporate clothing is no longer a “nice to have,” but a logical step within your sustainability policy and employer branding.
Recycling corporate clothing: what can really be done?
Many organizations wonder if corporate clothing can really be recycled. The short answer: yes, but it strongly depends on the type of material, the blend ratio, and the condition of the clothing.
Atelier Jungles assists in collecting and sorting old corporate clothing. From there, we roughly work with three routes:
1. Reuse (if responsible)
Clothing that is still in good condition can sometimes be reused internally. Think of new employees or temporary positions. This is the most accessible step: you extend the lifespan without additional production.
2. Recycling
Depending on the fibers, textiles can be recycled into new raw materials, such as fibers for yarn or filling. This works particularly well for larger, homogeneous streams like cotton or certain polyester blends.
3. Upcycling (most visible and impactful)
In upcycling, we transform old corporate clothing into new products or even entirely new corporate clothing. Logos, colors, and recognizable details can remain visible, allowing the story of your organization to be reflected in the new product.
Examples include bags, laptop sleeves, aprons, interior items, or limited edition merchandise. This is often the most sustainable and communicatively strong route.
Upcycling as a circular solution
Upcycling prevents waste and reduces the demand for new raw materials. At Atelier Jungles, we use leftover materials, old corporate clothing, or production remnants to create new items that fit your brand identity.
This results in:
- less textile waste and lower CO₂ emissions
- products with a strong, circular story
- visible fulfillment of sustainability and UPV goals
